Boom Bap Genre

Just wondering if this was a new genre... To me it sounds like old skool Hip Hop that's been regurgitated. This guy cuts and chopped samples were made into beats ect.... Just been watching this guy and he buys old vinyl and samples, chops and edits on the AKAI MPC 2000XL sampler. It's good and impressive what he does I'm not knocking on his music, sampling skills, but it just sounds very old skool Hip Hop.
